Old friend is going to be Räikkönen’s new race engineer

Antonio Spagnolo will be Kimi’s 5th race engineer during his F1-career. Ferrari has promoted the Italian engineer who will be Kimi’s closest trustee from Maranello. 

Stefano Domenicali decided it after discussing with Räikkönen and Spagnolo. Räikkönen knows Spagnolo from before because he was part of Kimi’s engineering group during his last stint in Ferrari. 

Andrea Stella has worked as Fernando Alonso’s race engineer and the duo will also continue during the next seasons. Spagnolo who came from Minardi to Ferrari in 2005 has also gained experience as both Massa’s and Alonso’s car engineer. 

Massa’s race engineer, Rob Smedley, is going to Williams for a higher position. 

Mark Slade, who has worked with Kimi for seven seasons, he will stay in Lotus as Pastor Maldonado’s race engineer. 

Räikkönen visited Maranello on Tuesday. He was there with a Christmas spirit to say hello to his friends. Kimi officially starts his work in Ferrari on January 1st. 

Räikkönen has healed well from the back surgery he had on November 14th. He has been able to do certain training exercises – like cycling – for some time already, but straining the back is still forbidden.
