Grosjean: I'm one of the best drivers in F1

Romain Grosjean has said he is proud of what he achieved in 2013 and he reckons he has now proven he is one of the top drivers in F1. 

“I think I have proven that I am part of the best drivers and that's how I consider myself,” he confirmed to ESPNF1.com. 

“It took some work and some painful time to get there, but I am now proud of what I am doing and I don't think I can do more.” 

Twelve months ago it was a very different situation and the Frenchman ended 2012 very much under a cloud after a series of opening lap crashes in the latter part of the year. That meant he went into 2013 under pressure, although he turned things around. Indeed he took six podiums in total this season – four of which came in the final six races. 

“I was probably the one that was the most negative about myself,” he continued. “I hate not being able to do what I want to be able to do and it was hard. It wasn't nice to read those comments, but that was not what was worst, the worst was to not be happy with what you are doing. 

“Right now I am glad because I'm very happy with what I am doing and it's always nice to be able to read those nice comments. 

"But it's mainly with yourself that you need to be happy.” 

Pressed on if he can now take up the mantle of number one and lead Lotus in 2014, Grosjean has no doubts: “The team knows me and I know them very well. I feel at home at Enstone and I feel at home when I am with them, and we do enjoy our time together. We work hard and we are always able to say things face-to-face, which is important when I'm not driving well, and the times when I'm not happy with something I tell them. That relationship allows us to step up and I think they are ready for me to be the leader and I am ready to be the leader,” he concluded.

Tenho pena deste moço! Ele realmente acredita no que disse!!! Gente!!!! Ele realmente acha que está entre os melhores pilotos de F1!!!! #quedó

Tenho pena da Lotus também, vai ter um "líder" e tanto na temporada que vem!!!! rsrsrsrs... Se bem que eles procuraram por isto né?! Então...

E não adianta me dizerem: "ah, mas ele evoluiu muito no segundo semestre deste temporada". Claro, a equipe dele simplesmente virou as costas para o outro piloto do time. Não fez mais do que a obrigação de piloto mediano que é.

Romain não é humilde, é arrogante. Um cara na posição dele, que não conquistou nada na F1 e se acha a última bolacha do pacote deste jeito?! Fora que ainda teve a capacidade de se negar a receber ajuda vinda de um tricampeão mundial como Jackie Stewart na temporada passada. Grosjean não está, nem de longe, entre os melhores pilotos da F1 mesmo!!!! 

E o dia que este piloto que PAGA para correr estiver no mesmo nível de Kimi, Alonso, Jenson, Vettel e Hamilton, só para citar os campeões mundiais em ação na F1, acho melhor pedirmos para o mundo parar, porque definitivamente, vou precisar descer.
