The McLaren man talks about his future, the sport and what not to wear
Jenson Button looks like a racing driver. The chiseled jaw, the piercing eyes, the smile that suggests he’s seen more in his 33 years than you or I will in a lifetime. He’s like the Platonic ideal from which other drivers are drawn, as if someone designed him from the ground up like a sports car, tinkering with every detail until it was exactly right. If he sat an aptitude test, they’d take one look at him and hand him a sheet of paper with “racing driver” on it.
And so it was – he went from a schoolboy dreaming of fast cars to the youngest Formula 1 driver in the history of the sport to winning the 2009 World Championship. You can fill in the blanks: houses in Monte Carlo, London and Bahrain; personal fortune of £58m; model girlfriend (Jessica Michibata, whom he has dated for four years); brand ambassador; bit of modelling on the side.
As a younger driver he earned himself the inevitable reputation as a jet-setting playboy (which he says has been over-egged), hanging out at exclusive clubs with beautiful women and generally living the life of Riley.
