"In 2014, will Kimi stay at Lotus or go to Red Bull?" by Antonio
Black heart and red mind
As every Kimi Raikkonen fan is doing since some week, I am very interested and worried in the same time
about rumours for his 2014 season. We know, suspence is not the best feeling.
Lotus or Red Bull? Well, that's not a simple decision. It looks like when we have to decide if follow our
heart or our mind. And we know this kind of choice is very hard to do.
Probably Kimi's heart would say Lotus. Ok, they have big financial troubles; in fact, because of them they
lost a good engineer like Allison and sometimes the car lacks of updates. And to be honest, the salary is
paid late too. But it doesn't matter, they believed in his talent deeply despite the 2 years of break, they built
the team all around him, with the result of a nice feeling for Kimi! His supremacy won't be discussed and,
in the end of the day, he will achieve some victory again.
With all of this Red Bull would be the logical choice to do. They are a big team with the fastest car for the last 4
years, a winning mentality (instead that of Lotus), the best technical director, a better salary, and, first of
all, the chance to fight again for the championship. And the last particular is really important: Kimi isn't a
guy anymore, he will be 34 years old in next October, which means he has to rush to win another title! And
his teammate isn't the hardest rival on the grid, let be honest. Some trains pass just once in life! And
anyway, changing is good ever.
If I was in Kimi's place, I would sign for Lotus. Simply because heart has to dominate mind. Apart the
fact that he should be grateful to them, money isn't the most important thing in life (especially when you are
already rich)... and then there is Helmut Marko, who provides Vettel the best support of the team (have
you noticed all bad things like Kers failures at the start or mistakes during pit stops happen only to
Mark???). And doing this, which can be fair or not, they win everything since 2010. So, why they should
break the play thing? Why complicate their life? And don't forget Vettel will drive for Red Bull at least 2
season with him...
Suddendly for me, I think he signed for Red Bull already. Because rumours are based almost ever on
something true, because since the beginning he considered Lotus like a temporary solution for his
career, because there he can win the title, because money for F1 drivers is very important (he thought about driving again for Ferrari last year...), because Bouiller began to talk of B plans.
I won't like it, but I will understand. It isn't the most beautiful one, but the right one, at least in this
moment. Unfortunately my dream called McLaren will rest just that.
