Saturday in Abu Dhabi – On Track with Kimi [Q&A] 

A fine fifth qualifying result from our Iceman today means he’ll start on the third row of the grid for tomorrow’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Kimi gives us the session from his point of view and tells us why he’ll be keen to keep up with the Bulls from the start of tomorrow’s race

 

HOW HAS YOUR DAY BEEN ? QUALIFYING DIDN’T LOOK TOO BAD… 

Qualifying was good. The car hasn’t felt fantastic all weekend but we decided we weren’t going to change the car’s set-up from where it was for the last race. It was the right choice because in the end the circuit came to us in qualifying where the car was the best it has been so far here. We’ll give tomorrow our best shot; Let’s see if we can make a good start to get right behind the Red Bulls, and then we’ll see what happens after that. 

HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK THE START WILL BE? EVERYONE IS SAYING IT’S GOING TO BE A ONE STOP STRATEGY, WILL IT BE CRUCIAL TO GET A GOOD START FOR THE RACE TOMORROW ? 

It’ll be the same as many of the races; here you don’t see a lot of overtaking, although this year we will have the DRS so we’ll try to gain a place if we can, and make as good a start as we can. 

HOW WAS THE SPEED IN THE CAR THIS WEEKEND? The speed was fine; we had the speed last time also, and the lap time, but not the speed in a straight line. If we are able to put ourselves behind cars with a similar speed then we can see what we can do during a pit stop.. 

PACE WISE, YOU’RE NOT TOO FAR OFF THE TOP GUYS, DO YOU THINK YOU’LL HAVE A CHANCE TOMORROW TO GO FOR PODIUM? 

If we can get behind the Red Bulls after the start, then we should have the chance to stay with them and hopefully do something about it during the race. I think our only chance is if they make a mistake and then we’ll try to get past. It will be the same as India I think, and if we had qualified higher then it would have been a completely different story.

Não vi o treino e tenho certeza que não perdi nada. rsrsrs... Mas a verdade é que mesmo com as palavras até de certa forma otimistas de Kimi para a corrida de amanhã, estou chateada, porque definitivamente saíremos de Abu Dhabi em quinto no Mundial, na pior das hipóteses.

Não há como ficar à frente de Hamilton e Webber, a não ser que eles não pontuem. Então, adeus terceiro posto no mundial. Eu me apeguei à ideia e à sensação boa que estar entre os 3 me dá, especialmente depois de ver Kimi dois anos fora da F1, mas infelizmente, é chegada a hora de desapegar. rsrsrs

Nesta categoria, sem máquina, não há piloto que faça milagre. Então, infelizmente terei que ver um cara como Webber, que é meia-boca (mas que tem carro bom) ficar à frente de Kimi no Mundial. Quanto à Hamilton (embora ele não seja nem aqui e nem na Inglaterra melhor do que Räikkönen) ainda é aceitável, porque o cara é bom piloto.

Desculpem meu desânimo, mas é triste demais a gente ver o piloto que torcemos lutar e saber que o seu melhor resultado não é possível porque ele não tem equipamento, embora tenha talento. Assim é a F1. Já deveria estar acostumada, mas não estou! :(
