JV on the podium - Trophée Andros 2011/2012
JV on the podium
15th, January, 2012
A strong performance by Jacques Villeneuve in this weekend’s Lens-en-Vercors round of the Andros Trophy saw the French-Canadian return to the podium with a superb third place finish in the first race.
Wrestling his Škoda Fabia around the bumpy circuit, Villeneuve was able to follow up his Friday performance with a solid eighth place finish in Saturday’s race, to add a total of 141 points to his championship challenge.
Speaking about the weekend, Villeneuve said: “Lans-en-Vercors is a rather bumpy circuit which I really like - it was the same thing last year. With its numerous sequence of corners in which our car was more at home than in the two hairpins, it needed a different kind of driving style. You have to be very clean and that suits me down to the ground. I felt confident from the first moment we arrived and without a mistake on the last lap of the last qualifying round on Saturday, I could have been on the podium like I was on Friday. A lot of work has been done on the car and it’s getting easier to drive, but it still catches you out from time to time. You have to be on your toes on a permanent basis.”
With Villeneuve just four points shy of a top ten championship position, Team Škoda now has a 17 point lead over second-placed rivals Dacia in the manufacturer’s standings. They now head to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges for the next round of the Andros Trophy, this coming weekend on 20 and 21 January.
