In this room the identical slides to the barriers by Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso are a much bigger event than Mikko Hirvonen's retirement from leading position in Wales, where he was fighting for the world championship.
Actually there are only a couple Finnish reporters who follow rally plus Pat Behar who as FIA:s delegate looks after the photographers - the French is a sworn fan of Finnish rally drivers.
I myself listened to the rally radio live while watching the F1-practice at the same time. When the information about Hirvonen's retirement on the SS came it was a huge disappointment and I hit my fist on the table.
My Brazilian and German friends asked me what caused such an outburst. When I told them that Hirvonen had stopped in rally from leading position, they asked which rally was really on - was it some national rally?
I told them that he just lost the world championship, which obviously was unheard news for them.
Still. The F1-people's knowledge of rally is very limited. Two weeks ago in India Bob Constanduros, who has been FIA:s interviewer for decades, interviewed as usual the drivers in the parade.
When he got to Sebastian Vettel, he told him through the speakers that in a few weeks he will come to India again for FIA:s Gala together with rally champion Sebastien Loeb.
Although this proved to be right, Constanduros thought back then that the rally championship had already been decided ages ago just like in F1.
At least one can't blame Hirvonen for the lack of openminded effort. Loeb didn't get his title for free. And Finland isn't without a rally champion since Juho Hänninen won as the first Finn the world championship of S2000-serie.
Hänninen will this way get to India's gala for his championship just as Hirvonen gets there to get his silver.

Por que eu não me surpreendo com um texto deste? Por que para a F1, automobilismo é só a F1 e nada mais. Quando eu comecei a acompanhar corridas esta categoria era mesmo a minha única referência, mas por ser fã de Jacques Villeneuve, um piloto que veio da F-Indy, eu aprendi que quando a gente fala em corridas, não é só a F1 que existe.
Ao longo de todos estes anos que acompanho automobilismo vi diversas categorias, aprendi um monte de coisas novas e se alguém me perguntar por que não gosto de Nascar, por exemplo, vou poder explicar, porque eu já acompanhei, não estarei simplesmente supondo e pronto.
Acho uma pena que o meio da F1 ignore solenemente as outras categorias. O rali, por exemplo, pode não ser repleto de riqueza e luxo e tecnologia de ponta como a F1, mas é uma categoria fascinante, com a qual eu aprendi muitas coisas nestes últimos dois anos e o mais importante de tudo, aprendi a respeitar demais os caras que pilotos estes carros pelas estradas do mundo. Porque não é fácil.
Não estou aqui querendo dizer que a F1 é uma droga, que fique bem claro, e mesmo porque, não é! Só fico chateada com a superioridade arrogante da categoria com relação aos restante do automobilismo.
Como podem as pessoas não reconhecerem a grandeza de Sébastien Loeb, octacampeão mundial e babarem tanto no talento de Michael Schumacher?! #nãoéjusto
