2010 Kimi Räikkönen Special Week (Semana KR 2010) by Antonio

Well, the article and the video below were made by a tifosi. This information is very important because is a proof that some of them, Ferrari's supporters, are Kimi fans afterall. Antonio, or just Tony (like I call him) is a Kimi fan from Italy, a huge supporter of Scuderia Ferrari.

When I saw the picture below on his facebook with that sentence I immediately decided to invite Tony to be part of this project. Why? Because I wanted a real tifosi writing about how it was to have Kimi driving for them. And Tony wrote such an honest article, so emotional. I told him that it made me cry! Not because I was sad but because I knew at least one tifofi had accepted Kimi the way he was. It was really good for me to read Tony's article!

That's why I want to thank you so much for being such a great friend to me Tony, and for accepting my invitation to this project. I loved your article and your video!!! Grazie!
.............

Obrigada!

The importance of a man is understood only when You lose him...

My Cold, Red and Great Emotions.
by Antonio

How classifying a F1-driver? In how many categories?
Well, many liters of ink have been wasted to reply at this very hard and nearly existential question for every F1 lover.
The main and easier way is ever the same: in a side winning drivers, that can show their titles, their victories, their statistics in few words; opposite of them, all the rest.
It could be right, but… I never felt an emotion reading some numbers. Take Alain Prost for example. He is one of greatest drivers, without Senna probably he could won the same titles of Michael Schumacher, but what about the emotions? Nothing, just like a teacher!

In the end, to classify all F1 drivers we need another category. Which one? That of the “champions of emotions“, composed of people that love only to push and nothing else, where I would put for example Gilles Villeneuve, Stirling Moss, Nigel Mansell and the most talented F1 drivers of last decade, Kimi Raikkonen.
Why? Oh, that’s easy. Because I can assure you, despite I am a great Ferrari fan since 20 years ago, nobody has given to me all the emotions (good ones and bad ones) like Kimi did, neither Schumi!

Ever when he was a younger driver in Mclaren. Spa 2002, qualify session. Eau Rouge, Radillon, and after this 0% of visibility caused by the smoke for an engine failure of a BAR. His reaction? No one.
Just continuing to push like nothing happened. It was amazing, no matter the team or driver that you were supporting.

Anyway, let’s pass about my cold, red and great emotions about Kimi.

THE FIRST ONE. All is started during the podium ceremony of 2006 F1 Monza-GP, with that little act of Michael when he slapped on Kimi like saying “Kimi, all these tifosi next year will be yours!”.
In that moment, a dream of mine came true. In 2007 the best driver will race for Ferrari.

MELBOURNE 2007. Just a masterpiece. Hat-trick at first race like Fangio. Is not enough to believe he is the best? But that mistake on corner 3...

MONACO 2007. Guys, you can’t imagine my anger about that stupid mistake during exit lap in Q2. Where you were seeing? To your new yacht??? But we have to consider also Stepney factor maybe…

SILVERSTONE 2007. Finally Kimi has a car that suits him very good, like Ferrari was used to do with Schumi. What an impressive series of fast laps to overcome before Hamilton and then Alonso. Perfect! Finally championship’s situation is changing!

MONZA 2007. With a one pit-stop strategy, Kimi is second and Hamilton third. But, after few laps, Hamilton overtakes him very easy at first chicane. Great sense of frustration, like in Ferrari team.

SPA 2007. Despite the gap in the ranking is ever big, too much big, he conserves the concentration and run another perfect race in this place, that will be considered his kingdom.

FUJI 2007. Ferrari like usual does a mess about tires, and he is obliged to stop to change the tyres. He makes a spin too, he is last. And here you can see the biggest Kimi’s quality: the “never give up” force. At the end of the race he is 3rd, after a magnificent overtake to Coulthard at 130R corner with all that rain. Standing ovation!

SHANGAI 2007. How can you write your name definitively in Ferrari’s legend? Oh, that’s easy, winning the race no. 200 by a perfect race and in the same time keeping alive the chance to win this dramatically (for some sense) and emotional championship that I will never forget!

SAN PAOLO 2007. Honestly I don’t know how many days, or more probably months of life my heart lost here watching this race. And I am not the only about, isn’t true? I will never forget that great sensation of cold (that I am feeling just now remembering it), that fever, that shaking… I never felt something like this during a F1 race, neither during Suzuka 2000. Thanks Kimi, forever grateful for this! Only you could win this title despite spy-story, nobody else. Thanks for not giving up! Real tifosi will never forget you!

SPA 2008. With a great start (never seen something like this with a steering wheel in F1!), two great overtakes on that conditions of track, gets the lead. But then, in last laps, the rain, maybe the greatest enemy of F2008.
Seriously, I remember my anger, my chair flying in the living room that I launched, my screams, my headache. But, a lot of time after this, I realized this: he did all that a F1 supporter wants by every F1 driver: racing for winning, nothing else! Because, like said Enzo Ferrari (I am sure he would liked Kimi, trust me!), the second one is only the first one of the losers.

MONACO 2009. Despite the car, an astonishing qualify, second, for only few milliseconds. Now I am sure that there are still places where the driver can do the difference. So, First podium for Ferrari in 2009 with Kimi. Is it a coincidence? Not, I don’t think so. Just talent.
Anyway you could be more gentleman shaking the hand and kissing Princess Charlotte Casiraghi, what the hell, you are a F1 driver, not a taxi driver!

SPA 2009. Again here, again to write the history of the University of F1. Here there is all that you need to win a great race: talent, overtakes (let’s say it: winning a race starting on pole is boring), speed, luck, a good car, concentration: in only a word, perfection.
Until now, this is my last, big and authentic joy about F1. Since then, nothing. Ah guys, supporting a team rather than a driver is not ever a pleasure…

Well, after all these emotions that can make you feel very good and sad in the same time, a great wish of happy Birthday to Kimi! How many years? 31? Then come back in F1, you are still young! I need of a real F1 driver, no matter the team. Don’t waste your time in WRC and come back to feel again the real excitement of F1. See you in Monza GP, ok?

A big thank you to the staff of this blog and to all the readers of this article by Antonio Magno from Italy.

Now you can watch Tony's video which is a translation in images from the article you have read above.
